The ideology of the Mediterranean Union is clearly recognition of Monotheism,believes which are from Abraham father of the believers and democracy/reason (Ibn Rushd,...).Mediterranean is one proper culture with declensons of perception.
For Muhit Union it's almost the same but the origines of the chain of cultures takes its sources in Antiquity:Mesopotamia linked with Persic Empire linked with Ancient India. If you read 'Projection for Machreq al Aqsa', you can see that this link was confirmed with islamisation of Indian peninsula. Moreover Brahmanism was recognised as Religion of the Book during the Muslim empires in India.

In history the big Sunni dynasties are from Nabi family: Umayad and Umayad of Cordoba, Abbasi. Just the Almohabitun are from a different familyline.
The difference with Shia is only Ali descendance could be consecrated as Khalifa .This for Shia should happen when the Mahdi (the hidden Imam) will be back.So I'm not Shia, I'm Sunni (Hanafi madhab).

I beleive that an symbolic caliphate is possible but not a fusion of every Muslim country.By example Indonesia is more linked with Southern Seas (SE Asia).And I'm proud of Tunisian sovereignty!

assalamu alaikum akhi Butrus,
I propose the unity of people who hold Islam as their deen. On what basis do you propose to unit the people included in the Mediterranean Union? As far as I understood from your blog, this will include India, Bangladesh, Iran and Arab countries. The countries don't have neither religion, nor even a language that binds them. What is the ideological backbone that you propose?

As for the khaleefah, he does not have to belong to the family of the prophet (pbuh). The Shia believe that the leader of the Muslims must be from ahlul bayt, I don't know if you're a shia, but the Sunna do not take this as true. The khaleefah could be anyone as long as he is a Muslim, male and competent.

I'm rather in favour of Mediterranean Union, Union of Muhit (Machreq al Aqsa and Indian peninsula).
If the caliphate was restored, the khalifa has to belong to Nabi's family so the Alawi of Morocco or the Hashimi of Jordan can postulate for caliphate.
